CLIMAX TOWNSHIP, MI 9WKZO AM/FM) – A suspect who police say violently attacked a concrete crew working at a residence in Kalamazoo County’s Climax Township has died from what is described as a medical emergency.
Friday just after 1:00 p.m. deputies from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 200 block of South Main Street in Climax Village for a report of an active assault in progress. When they arrived deputies learned that a concrete crew working at a residence had been violently atacked by an individual who arrived on scene and began assaulting them with his vehicle and an object resembling an ice pick.
Despite atempts to retreat, the crew was unable to evade the assault and sustained non-life threatening serious injuries. During the incident, the suspect was physically restrained by individuals on scene while awaiting the arrival of law enforcement and emergency medical personnel.
While being restrained, the suspect suffered a medical emergency. Life-saving efforts were initiated immediately by bystanders and continued by first responders upon arrival, but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
