KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo city commission is expected to choose the executive headhunting firm that will help them find their next city manager today.
They have already interviewed three firms.
It’s a two-way street as Kalamazoo will have to be attractive to a dwindling pool of candidates to attract top talent in this competitive market,

During the interviews, the consultants agreed Kalamazoo has a good reputation, it has The Kalamazoo Promise, the Foundation for Excellence, and new development in the works.
Battle Creek is also looking for a new city manager right now. They are beginning their second round, because their first attempt struck out.
It took Kalamazoo city commissioners two rounds to find their last city attorney, a delay they would like to avoid this time.
They are looking for a replacement for City Manager Jim Ritzema, who after over a dozen years on the job, retires in November.
