PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage firefighters put out a fire at a home in the 5800 block of Lovers Lane last night.
The got the call just before 10 p.m. from neighbors who saw smoke coming from the home and they found heavy smoke and flames at the rear of the home when they arrived.
No one was home and no one was injured.
Battalion Chief Lou Playford says thanks to alert neighbors and fire crews, the flames were quickly brought under control.
Mutual aid was provided on scene by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, while fire stations were backfilled and staffed by crews from the Texas Township Fire Department and Comstock Fire Department to ensure continued coverage for the community.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Portage Fire Marshal’s Office.
