KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – Kalamazoo County’s unemployment rate rose to 5.3 percent in May, following along with most counties in the state.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget says not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates rose in 14 of Michigan’s 18 labor market areas over the month.
Kalamazoo County’s 5.3 percent May rate was up from 4.5 percent in April and 4.0 percent in May 2024.
Regional unemployment rates in the state ranged from 4.6 to 7.4 percent in May. Calhoun County rose from 5.7 percent in April to 6.2 percent in May. Allegan County’s rate in May was 5.0 percent, with St. Joseph, Cass, and Van Buren counties at 5.7 percent.
Michigan’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate edged down by one-tenth of a percentage point in May to 5.4 percent.
