ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) -Consumer sentiment surged in June for the first time in six months. The University of Michigan’s final reading for the month jumped 16 percent from May.
The survey showed a broad based rebound, although the reading is still well below the post-election bounce seen in December 2024.
The survey’s chief economist said consumers remain concerned about inflation and the potential impact of tariffs. Year-ahead inflation expectations fell to five percent this month which is down more than one-and-half percent from May.
