CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – On Thursday, at approximately 1:15 p.m., deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to the 23000 block of West Michigan Avenue in Marengo Township following a report of a domestic assault.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim, who reported that two days earlier, on Tuesday, June 24, a male subject had fired a handgun at him twice during a domestic-related altercation. The suspect then allegedly pointed the firearm at other individuals in the home before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported.
Following an initial investigation, CCSO deputies identified the suspect and responded to the 100 block of Allen Place in the City of Albion in an attempt to locate him. The Albion Department of Public Safety (ADPS) located the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The 45-year-old Marengo Township resident was detained without incident and taken into custody for questioning.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on a charge of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder.
The crime scene in Marengo Township was processed by a technician from the Calhoun Area Multi-Jurisdictional Evidence Team (CAMJET), who collected evidence consistent with a shooting. The materials gathered will be used in support of the ongoing investigation and potential prosecution.
The CCSO Detective Bureau continues to investigate this incident. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the assistance of the Albion Department of Public Safety and the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority.
