ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – For the second time in less than three months, a plane crashed at Ottawa Executive Airport, and for the first time in nearly five years, it proved to be a fatal incident.
The name of the single pilot of a small, fixed wing craft that had “heavy damage” when first responders arrived on Sunday morning wasn’t immediately disclosed, nor were the circumstances that led to the wreck at the facility off of Byron Road.
Any initial findings by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies and Zeeland Township Fire Department crews will be turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration, who will take over the investigation into this matter.
Two unnamed persons escaped injury following an April 8 crash at that airport when a Cessna 180 went off of the runway while attempting to land and flipped over onto its wings. Back in September of 2020, a couple around 60 lost their lives when their Myerley RV9A craft crashed shortly after taking off.
