KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AN/FM) – The sale of a chain of hospitals in southwest Michigan, including Ascension Borgess in Kalamazoo southwest Michigan, is now complete.
Beacon Health System Tuesday announced it had officially acquired the health care system, which includes four hospitals and 35 outpatient clinics.
As part of the acquisition, Indiana-based Beacon Health System is renaming the four hospitals. Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo is now Beacon Kalamazoo, Ascension Borgess Allegan Hospital is now Beacon Allegan, Ascension Borgess – Lee Hospital in Dowagiac is now Beacon Dowagiac, and Ascension Borgess – Pipp Hospital in Plainwell has been renamed Beacon Plainwell.
Beacon announced the purchase of the Michigan hospitals and clinics in April.
About 2,700 people work in the facilities acquired by Beacon, but food service contractor Compass Group USA, Inc., which had a contract with Ascension, laid of 250 employees because of the acquisition.
