KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Most Kalamazoo Public Schools students are enjoying summer vacation, but it will be back to school today for hundreds of students who need extra help.
Superintendent Darrin Slade says classes will run to the end of this month.
He says transportation, breakfast and lunch will also be provided.
About 1,500, or one in 8 students were invited, but only 300 signed up. This year registration fees were waived to encourage more participation.
Students who had poor performance on assessment tests, failed courses, particularly in core subjects and those with high absenteeism were invited to participate in summer classes.
