SPRINGFIELD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A suspect is in custody after a break-in Monday morning at a commercial business in the 600 block of Avenue A in the City of Springfield.
At around 7:15 a.m. deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a breaking and entering at that business and found evidence of forced entry. A search of the premises was conducted by deputies and a K9 unit, but the suspect was not located inside the building.
The Sheriff’s Office says thanks to witness statements and surveillance footage provided by the business, deputies were able to develop a suspect description. A short time later, a man matching that description was seen near North Helmer Road and Bishop Road.
Deputies, along with the K9 and Drone Team and in collaboration with the Battle Creek Police Department, responded to the area and established a secondary perimeter. The suspect was located and taken into custody without incident. He was later lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on burglary charges.
The suspect has been identified as a 46-year-old male from the City of Battle Creek.
The case remains under investigation.
