BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Battle Creek will build a new fire station as the city commission has changed its course on their plan to renovate and build new stations that was unveiled last year.
Station 1 and Station 3 were going to be combined in a renovated Station 1 and the 123-year-old Station 3 across the street from the Post factory would be closed.
Instead, a new Station 3 will be built nearby and the project at Station 2 will be reduced. Station 1 will be used for storage and fire department officials say the new plan is much better for the department.
The project, however, is $8-million over the $25-million budget and commissioners will decide in August if they will bond that amount or make more cuts.
