KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An Oshtemo Township auto dealership is planning a major expansion and asking for Brownfield Authority money to help with the project.
Maple Hill Auto Group plans to expand their footprint from their current location on West Main Street on the east side of U.S. 131 and add a new home for its Subaru dealership on 11 acres of land where the Westside Medical Building now stands, across from Meijer.
Owner Jim Vandenberg says they really need the additional space.
He says it will create at least 31 new jobs, maybe more.
Vandenberg says they also plan special accommodation for customers waiting to have their cars serviced.
His plan is to start building soon and have it ready by the end of next year.
He has asked the Kalamazoo County board to approve brownfield participation, which would help with demolition on the structure, which has lead-lined walls.
The county board has set an August 19th public hearing on the request.
