KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – This year’s race for the Kalamazoo City Commission officially begins today, with 4 p.m. being the deadline for candidates to file to have their name appear on the ballot.
We should know by later today who is running and who is not.
Commissioners met last night, and Chris Praedel, who has two years left on his term, had some advice for whoever is running to be prepared for some difficult decisions.
Mayor Dave Anderson says the job can be a real challenge.
They are calling for a well-mannered and respectful debate this fall.
Vice Mayor Jeanne Hess added this.
The mayoral race will be on the fall ballot as well as three commission seats, which are now held by Don Cooney, Stephanie Hoffman and Qianna Decker.
Cooney has already announced he’s not running again.
Candidates are required to submit affidavits proving they meet qualifications, and at least 50 valid signatures to the clerk’s office today.
The election will be held on November 4th.
