COVERT TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Holtec International is a step closer to restarting the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert Township.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission yesterday approved the company’s operating license status application, allowing them to bring in fuel and officially get plant operators back on shift.
The NRC says Palisades still has to meet more requirements before the actual restart can happen, and that is expected by the end of 2025.
Palisades shut down in 2022 and was sold to Holtec for decommissioning, but the company decided to try to restart it.
