BATTLE CREEK,MI (WKZO AM/FM) Thursday night around 9:19 p.m., officers from the Battle Creek Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of Inn Road.
Upon arrival, officers located a 37-year-old Battle Creek woman with an apparent gunshot wound to her upper right arm. Emergency medical care was provided on scene, the victim was then transported to a Kalamazoo-area hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
The suspect, identified as the victim’s brother—a 34-year-old Springfield man—was located shortly after the incident by a Michigan State Police Trooper traveling westbound on I-94. Officers from the Battle Creek Police Department, along with deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, assisted MSP in conducting a traffic stop. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered from his vehicle.
He was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail and faces charges related to assault and weapons violations.
Investigators believe this was an isolated incident. There is no ongoing threat to the public.
