KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – If you are looking for something special to do this week, the USTA Boys National Tennis Tournament is underway.
Kalamazoo has been hosting the major national sports event for over six decades, and there are still many locally who have never gone to see the matches.
Jane Ghosh with Discover Kalamazoo says the young athletes playing this week, will be playing at Wimbledon, Arthur Ashe Stadium and Roland Garros someday.
“These young tennis players before they aspire to go to the US Open or Wimbledon or the French Open, they aspire to come to Kalamazoo,” says Ghosh.
She says they will be whittling down the field to the finals this weekend when champions in the 16- and 18-year-old divisions will be crowned.
“For your 18 singles and doubles, those boys will earn automatic berths to the US Open.”
Tickets range in price from $10 to $100 depending on the date of competition.
