KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Last night’s Kalamazoo City Commission meeting ended in dramatic fashion when Commissioner Stephanie Hoffman revealed that she is one of the city’s latest gun victims.
She says she was shaken out of her bed by alarms after she heard gunshots outside this past week. She says three stray bullets ripped through her home, one through her bathroom, one through her living room and a third from her garage.
She was told by police that they were strays from a rolling gunfight between two cars passing by.
She says she wasn’t struck, but it has had an impact on her well being.
She says it has reinvigorated her determination to do something to prevent gun violence in the community.
Mayor Dave Anderson responded by calling on the community’s adults to “be the role models we need.” He called for a moment of silence, and then adjourned the session.
