KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Students are back to school beginning today, so it’s important that drivers remember what they have been taught about driving at this time of the year.
Keep an eye out in the mornings for students walking to school or to bus stops.
Remember that school buses make frequent stops, and that yellow means prepare to stop, and red flashing lights means stop at least 20 feet from the bus.
Some buses, including Kalamazoo Public School buses, are equipped with cameras that can capture the license plate number of a car that runs through a bus’ red flashing lights, and can result in fines of $100 to $500.
Penalties go up sharply if it results in an accident that causes injury or death.
