KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Consumers Energy is planning upgrades that will interrupt electricity to about 2,000 homes and businesses next weekend in Kalamazoo.
The substation maintenance work in the area between U.S. 131 and Douglas Avenue will from 11:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6, until as late as 7:00 a.m. the next morning. I
It’s part of Consumers Energy’s Reliability Roadmap, an effort to reduce the number and length of power outages in Michigan.
“We are committed to building a more resilient and efficient electric grid and this substation maintenance work will ensure equipment is in good working order,” said Chris Laird, vice president of grid operation restoration and work management at Consumers Energy. “We are grateful to our Kalamazoo customers for their patience as we carry out this essential work.”
Postcards have been mailed to affected customers in the area. Consumers Energy often schedules work like this overnight, when many people are asleep, to minimize disruptions to businesses or other activities. If work needs to be rescheduled, the backup date is Thursday, Sept. 11, from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Customers should call Consumers Energy at (800)477-5050 if they have questions or concerns.
