KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Art Prize is set to begin in a couple of weeks in Grand Rapids, but you don’t have to wait or travel far to see local art if you live in Kalamazoo.
Brush the Block is underway in Kalamazoo with three major new murals being created in town this week, and with festival events through the weekend. There will be window painting in participating businesses downtown all this week too, as well as a celebration of existing murals.
Raina Skeels with Discover Kalamazoo says they have a way to tour the sites.
Jonathan Yarbrough says the NACD will hold their Brush the Block event Thursday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring a live band.
Friday night, Art Hop will be folded into the celebration with a tour of public art locations in Kalamazoo with Lynn Houghton, and live music at Bates Alley that evening.
City Manager Jim Ritsema says there will be a bike tour Saturday morning.
On Saturday afternoon from 3 to 8 there will be a Brush the Block Party at the Haymarket Plaza with Live music and a D.J.
Closing ceremonies will be held late Sunday morning.
The new murals are being painted on the Metro Transit building, at the Northside Association for Community Development, and at the Stamped Robin.
