MACKINAC ISLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Mackinac Island city council has approved allowing the U.S. Secret Service to drive a federal government official to the Grand Hotel later this month for the Republican Leadership Conference.
It is the second time in the past six years the request was approved, with former Vice President Mike Pence having a motorcade on the famously-car-free island during President Trump’s first term.
MIRS News reports the federal official is believed to be U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
Cars have been banned since 1898 on the island in Lake Huron, but emergency services on Mackinac Island do have a few vehicle.
