KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo City Commission has set some dates for their City Manager Search, which ad hoc-committee Chair Jeanne Hess says is on schedule.
Current City Manager Jim Ritsema is retiring in November.
Vice Mayor Hess says they are happy with the number of applications that their executive search firm has received so far, with the deadline for applications set for this week.
They have also received over 400 responses to their city survey.
The City Commission will hold a closed session on the afternoon of October 6 to narrow the field to their top five prospects.
Hess says there will be several opportunities for the public to get involved in the process in mid-October, when the finalists come to town for interviews October 15, and during the next week before October 20 when the final vote is taken. A meet and greet is planned with the candidates at Capital Center at 180 Water Street from 5:00-6:30 p.m. October 14.
If all goes as scheduled and a contract can be negotiated, the city could have a new manager before Halloween.
