BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) A Battle Creek teenager has been charged in connection to shooting that put several schools into lockdown Monday.
18-year-old Diondre Sanders Jr, is being charged with aggravated assault with intent to murder and a weapons offense after a verbal altercation between a group in a car and two students on foot, ages 15 and 16.
According to the court documents, the altercation involved two other students who were on foot. Officials say a third student who was a bystander was shot.
Sanders initially denied being in the truck, then later claimed his younger brother fired the gun.
He is now charged with assault with intent to commit murder, felony-firearm, carrying with unlawful intent, discharge from a vehicle, and carrying a concealed weapon. Sanders’ bond has been set to $50,000 cash surety bond.
