KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A Western Michigan University student group has presented a petition to the city of Kalamazoo asking for funding to feed students who may not always be able to feed themselves.
Feeding Broncos president Aden DeWees presented 700 petition signatures asking them for $25,000 to help them with their program.
“Providing free dinners to food insecure college students in our city from 2025 through 2027. According to recent studies food insecurity among college students is a growing concern nationwide and Kalamazoo is no exception,” DeWees says.
They currently provide food-insecure students with free meals on Mondays and Thursdays. He says the effort has been recognized for its impact on the well-being of needy students, helping them focus on their studies.
“Free nutritious dinners will alleviate financial pressures reduce stress and foster a sense of belonging and support within our community.”
The meals program operates as part of the Bronco Kitchen and is located at Kanley Chapel, and also accepts public donations.
