LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – One week from today is the deadline for state lawmakers to get a budget for the next fiscal year passed and on the desk of Governor Gretchen Whitmer or state government shuts down.
Whitmer and House Speaker Matt Hall of Richland both believe the deal can be reached, with the Democratic governor saying the Republican speaker is serious and has a lot of priorities.
She adds she thinks they can also check off things on her list of priorities along with Senate Democrats.
Whitmer adds everyone will be able to claim victories but also need to make sacrifices to get the deal reached.
Budget negotiations are continuing all week.
