WASHINGTON, DC (WKZO AM/FM) – The U.S. Department of Justice says Governor Gretchen Whitmer does not have the authority to revoke Enbridge Energy’s permit for their Line 5 pipeline on the bed of the Straits of Mackinac.
The DOJ filed a statement of interest in the case filed by Enbridge against Whitmer and the director of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
She pledged to shut down the pipeline in her 2018 bid for governor, but has not been successful.
The Canadian company had reached an agreement with former Governor Rick Snyder to build a tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac for their pipeline and are working on that along with the legal fights against the Whitmer administration.
