PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage City Council has selected land next to the Portage Zhang Senior Center for a new farmers market.
Construction of three open-air pavilions and a new parking lot in the City Centre district is expected to begin this fall.
The Portage City Council voted to purchase the shelter structures for the market for $1.39 million during their meeting Tuesday. The market will be built on city-owned property between a Comerica Bank at 7941 South Westnedge Avenue and the senior center at 203 East Centre Avenue.
There will be 50 vendor spaces, a live performance area, picnic tables, and space for three food trucks. The city council will vote on a contractor for the project at their October 7 meeting.
Portage’s current farmers market has operated at the City Hall parking lot weekly since 2016.
