PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Portage Street Mill and Fill Program consists of major maintenance to selected streets to enhance structural integrity and ride quality, as well as prolong the life of the street.
These improvements include the removal of badly worn areas of the road and overlaying the surface with two inches of new asphalt.
The city has contracted with Lakeland Asphalt Corporation to perform the Mill and Fill Program.
Milling begins on Tuesday, September 30, and paving will follow.
The estimated completion date for this project is Friday, October 10. The following locations are scheduled for this project:
• Murfield Drive
• Innisbrook Drive
• Troon Court
• Wadsworth Lane
• Hillsmoor Lane
• Kilbirnie Drive
• Glenalmond Drive
• Burnock Drive
• Jessica Drive
• Macarthur Lane
• Dunross Drive
• Carnoustie Street
• Saint George Circle
• Turnberry Court
During paving operations, one lane of travel will remain open at all times. Residents should avoid driving on the “tac coat,” an oily substance sprayed on the street before paving to bond the new asphalt to the old surface. This material can stick to tires and vehicle undercarriages, potentially being carried onto driveways or garage floors.
To ensure the safety of residents and contracted employees and to facilitate the efficient completion of the project, residents are asked to remove all vehicles from the roadway during the project.
