KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The community groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday for a state-of-the-art facility in downtown Kalamazoo that will be the new home for Western Michigan University’s men’s and women’s basketball programs, the university’s hockey program, and the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team.
Construction has been underway for several months on the $515 million Kalamazoo Event Center. It’s expected the facility will 105 athletic events annually, as well as 120 entertainment, concert, conference and community events per year. The main arena will hold 6,500 for sporting events and up to 8,000 for concerts and shows.
The center is expected to open in fall 2027.
