KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tuesday is a big day for seniors in Kalamazoo County.
The annual Senior Expo is scheduled at the County Expo Center, and the county board is expected to give final approval to the allocation of funding from the senior millage.
Cassie Bailey with the Area Agency on Aging says their primary goal is to use the funding to help the aging population to stay in their own homes.
“The funding goal is to address essential services that are either unavailable or insufficient to meet the needs of vulnerable older adults residing in Kalamazoo County,” says Bailey. “Ensuring the greatest community impact possible, addressing service gaps that are most critical to life, commitment to reaching diverse underserved and marginalized populations.”
The Senior Expo will feature more than 140 exhibitors offering tools and information to help older adults and caregivers live well and stay active.
That includes everything from healthcare, caregiving, housing, financial and recreational opportunities all under one roof. There will also be an immunization clinic.
This year’s annual Veterans Stand Down will also be held Tuesday at the Expo Center.
Vets with the proper ID can get free meals and haircuts, contacts with veteran service advisors and the Secretary of State’s mobile unit on-site, to add a veteran indicator to a state ID or license.
The Senior Expo & Veteran Stand Down will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center, at the fairgrounds on Lake Street. Admission is free and open to the public.
