KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Bond has been denied for a suspect charged in the shooting death of a woman at an apartment complex in Oshtemo Township early Saturday morning.
27-year-old Jayvon Cortez Bulock was arraigned in Kalamazoo County District Court Tuesday. He is charged with both Open Murder and Felony Firearm.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says the homicide occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. at the Mt. Royal Apartments.
Deputies were dispatched after a neighbor reported what sounded like a disturbance followed by gunfire. Upon arrival, deputies located a male
subject who reported being assaulted and witnessing the murder of his girlfriend. The male victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Throughout the weekend, the Sheriff’s Office says detectives conducted numerous interviews, reviewed security camera footage from the area, and executed search warrants related to the incident. Crime scene technicians photographed and processed the scene, collecting key evidence in the ongoing investigation.
They say as a result of the investigative efforts, Bulock was quickly identified, located, and taken into custody.
He is being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
