KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Organizers say around 9,500 people ahowed up on North Drake Street Saturday for Kalamazoo’s No Kings rally, one of dozen across the state.
The No Kings movement’s website said the protests were an attempt to take another stand against what it says is President Trump’s authoritarianism.
Protestors held signs like “We the people refuse to bow” and “Protesting is patriotic.” Food was also collected to be delivered to local food pantries.
Team leader Carol Anderson said, “We want protection from illegal arrests and an end to targeting people of color, freedom of speech and education, Medicare and Medicaid restored, and free and fair elections.”
Organizer Jayne Tremblay said, “No matter what Republicans in Washington say, we are here today because we love America. And we will continue to show up for as long as it takes until the rights and freedoms we deserve as Americans are restored.”
Other area rallies were held in Paw Paw and Albion.
