KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It came down to the home stretch, but the Kalamazoo County commission has approved its 2026 budget.
Commissioners and staff were tying up loose ends right up until the final sessions, but they managed to find $300,000 to balance the Circuit Court budget and settle other issues.
The budget is a fluid document and Administrator Kevin Catlin says it’s just a matter of making the numbers balance.
Board chair Jen Strebs says it’s a big relief to have the budget finally done.
The new budget includes 15 new positions that they hope to fill by the time the budget takes effect January 1st.
The $97-million general fund approved Tuesday night is about $4 million more than last year.
The vote was unanimous.
