KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County board has approved their 2026 budget but still have some finishing touches to put on the document.
They have time, as it doesn’t take effect until the new year.
Last night they approved $400,000 for their Community Grants program, even though which community groups, and how much they will get, must still be finalized.
“Maybe we can hone our discussion down just to those items they would have received four or more votes of support from the commissioners,” said board chair Jen Strebs, who noted this method of funding community projects is still new.
“I think we need to refine the process. was our first ever just structured process for these community grants and I think it’s a learning process this time.”
That discussion will appear on a future agenda.
The board received requests that far exceeded their funding.
