GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A West Michigan man , Richard James Spring of Comstock Park, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for posting online threats against President Donald Trump.
Court documents revealed that in late January, Spring used both X and TikTok to make disturbing statements, including threats to shoot the president.
On TikTok, he also told users, “you’re going to watch your god DIE”.
Although Spring initially pleaded not guilty to multiple charges in May, he later accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to one count of making threats to kill and injure the President of the United States. His other charges were dropped as part of the agreement.
In addition to his 18-month prison term, Spring was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine. The court also recommended that during his time in prison, he receive mental health and anger management counseling, as well as substance abuse programming. Following his release from federal custody, Spring will be subject to two years of supervised release to ensure his compliance with the terms of his sentence.
