PARCHMENT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Parchment has been awarded a Consumers Energy Community Street & Boulevard Tree Planting Grant and will use it to plant 10 red maple trees along Commerce Lane.
This initiative will enhance the beauty and environmental health of Riverfront Park by providing shade to cool the area and supporting the restoration of native plantings along the riverbank.
The grant underscores Parchment’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community enhancement. The red maple trees, known for their vibrant fall colors and adaptability, will create a cooler, more inviting park environment while stabilizing the riverbank with native vegetation.
The project is part of a larger “Restore the Bank; Cool the Corridor” project stewarded by the city’s Parks and Recreation Committee and is in consistent with the goals of the Kalamazoo River Urban Wildlife Corridor plan.
For more information about the project or how to get involved with the Parks and Recreation Committee, contact the City of Parchment at 269-349-3785 or visit parchment.org
