KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Tomorrow is election day in Michigan, and 173 local property tax units have nearly four-billion-dollars in funding on the ballot.
Nearly 90% of the money is being requested for school bonds.
The largest is $425-million being asked for by Novi Community Schools, and 11 districts are asking for over $100-million.
Portage Public Schools is asking voters to approve a $132.4 million bond.
The largest non-school request is from the city of Troy for $137-million to renovate or build several municipal buildings.
Also on the ballot in southwest Michigan are elections for the Kalamazoo city commission and mayor, Portage mayor and city council, Parchment city commission, and bond proposals in Comstock Public Schools, Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools, and Parchment School District.
County-wide, there will be a transportation millage renewal on the ballot that would raise $7.8-million in the first year.
A library millage in Richland will also be before voters.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. tomorrow.
