KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A ribbon cutting is scheduled for later this month as construction wraps up on the new $6 million multipurpose building at the Kalamazoo Farmers’ Market
The 8,900 square foot enclosed structure at 1234 Bank Street includes a commercial kitchen and event space. It will be available for event rentals and will be home to Kalamazoo’s Winter Markets. The new facility will also serve as the main Kzoo Parks afterschool site during the school year.
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the building will be held onsite Monday, November 17 at 3:00 p.m.
The first Winter Market in the new space will be held on Saturday, December 6, and continue each Saturday through Saturday, April 25. The winter market is hosted by Peoples Food Co-op and will offer a selection of fresh produce, meats, fish, poultry, eggs, baked goods, pastas, coffee, jams, jellies, and more from local vendors.
“We’re thrilled to have a permanent home for the winter farmers market, a great new space for our youth programs, and a place the community can gather,” said Kzoo Parks Director Patrick McVerry. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during the construction this year. We look forward to welcoming the community to this new space and to many more market seasons to come!”
The building is the second phase of Farmer’s Market renovations, following the upgrades completed in 2021 that included new restrooms, an expanded parking lot, refurbished pavilions, and additional vendor space.
Construction of the building was funded by the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation, the State of Michigan, Federal American Rescue Plan Act dollars, and City Capital Improvement dollars.
