PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage Central High School boys’ soccer team was honored with a resolution at last night’s city council meeting for winning this season’s Division One state championship.
The Mustangs beat the Ann Arbor-Huron River Rats 1-0 to take the state crown on November 1st.
Mayor Patricia Randall declared November 1st as Portage Central Soccer Day in the city.
“It truly brought joy to our entire community,” she added.
The team’s goaltender, Gunnar Thorhallsson, has been named Mr. Soccer in the state of Michigan for 2025, as he shut out the opposing team in the championship game.
