COLDWATER, MI (WKZO-AM/FM) – The Schoolcraft Eagles set the tone in their MHSAA Division 7 Football Semifinal matchup against the Clinton Redwolves on the very first play from scrimmage. Jack DeVries connected with Drew Enright for an 80-yard score, and the Eagles were off and running. They led 30-0 at halftime and earned a 43-14 victory Saturday afternoon at Coldwater High School’s Cardinal Field.
Jack DeVries finished 11-of-16 for 185 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions while also adding a 3-yard rushing score. Drew Enright finished with 5 receptions for 144 yards and 2 TDs, while Landon DeVries had 3 catches for 13 yards and a score. TJ Luteyn added 16 carries for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brody Epple and Liam Haynes had 8 tackles apiece to lead the defense.
Clinton QB Gradyn Whelan was 7-of-20 for 98 yards and a TD and added 13 carries for 29 yards, Clifford Jones had 18 carries for 62 yards and a touchdown, Dacari Garrison had 2 receptions for 35 yards, and Bryce Randolph had 2 catches for 31 yards and a score while also leading the defense with 8 tackles.
The Redwolves wrapped up their season with a 10-3 record. Schoolcraft improved to 11-2 and will face Menominee in next Sunday’s Division 7 Final at Ford Field. The Maroons scored with under a minute left in the fourth to defeat Pewamo-Westphalia 32-38 at Gaylord.
In other semifinal games involving teams from the greater Kalamazoo area:
- In Division 2 at at Haslett, Portage Central Central’s bid for an undefeated campaign ended at the hands of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. The Eaglets defeated the Mustangs 42-7.
- In Division 4 at Caledonia, Vicksburg’s Cinderella run came to an abrupt end, as Hudsonville Unity Christian prevailed over the Bulldogs 45-17.
The 8-Player Football Finals were also played Saturday at the Superior Dome in Marquette. In Division 1, Martin defeated Blanchard Montabella 52-8. Portland St. Patrick shut out Felch North Dickinson 53-0 in Division 2.
