KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Cities usually bend over backwards to welcome new businesses, but residents in Kalamazoo continue to ask the city to do the opposite on one special parcel.
Environmentalists and homeowners in the Winchell area have been fighting a proposal to turn a lot at Stadium Drive and Drake Road into a mega car wash for years. It is located next to the Asylum Lake Preserve and they fear contamination.
They have submitted a proposed resolution to the city urging them to buy the property and leave it vacant.
Homeowner Robert Piellusch says it’s what residents want.
And it would be a bold move for the city to take.
Resident Iris Potter says the city should even consider eminent domain if necessary.
Petitions are reportedly being circulated to support the resolution, they have collected over 14,000 signatures at last word.
