KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Texas Township is getting a lump of coal in their holiday stocking.
The Kalamazoo County board granted them $22,700 as the local match for a proposed trail project, as part of their Community Grants program, but the township instead asked if they couldn’t spend that money on another project, a communications initiative that had not been funded.
Chair Jen Strebs says that’s now how their scoring works.
“We have programs that are in alignment with the original intent of this funding, in a way, but with a different municipality. It still supports municipal funding,” Strebs said.
After some discussion, the county board reconsidered and gave the money instead to two other groups that had scored much higher but had only been partially funded.
“Divide that dollar amount and reward half of it to Mothers of Hope and the other half to be added to the city of Parchment’s award.”
What do they say about looking a gift horse in the mouth?
