KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – For the 40th year, the American Red Cross is inviting donors to make an appointment to give blood at its signature holiday blood drive in Kalamazoo that reaches a major milestone this year.
The Holiday Blood Drive on Wednesday, December 24th marks the 40th year of the blood donation event that has been consistently supported by volunteer donors to help those who depend on lifesaving blood.
Donation appointments are available from 7 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the Radisson Plaza Hotel, 100 W. Michigan Avenue.
The hustle and bustle of the holidays, coupled with winter weather and seasonal illnesses like the flu, can lead to lower donor turnout this time of the year and make it tougher to keep sufficient blood products on hospital shelves. A strong blood supply is critical to ensuring people have access to lifesaving blood when they need it.
In addition to the Holiday Blood Drive on the 24th, anyone who donates blood through December 18th will get a $15 Amazon Gift Card in their email. People who donate between December 19th and January 4th will receive a Red Cross long-sleeved T-shirt while supplies last.
