HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 16, 2025) – Bill Huizenga apparently wants to continue making regular trips to Washington. Whether voters in southwest Michigan will vote to have him do so remains to be seen.
The Republican US House incumbent from Holland announced via social media on Monday his intention to seek a ninth two-year term in Congress, saying his work to make the fourth district “an even better place to call home isn’t finished.” The one-time state lawmaker succeeded Pete Hoekstra in 2011, and has not been seriously challenged by either members of his own party or from Democrats since in what has been traditionally a strong GOP region.
Redistricting two years ago brought a more moderate Kalamazoo into Huizenga’s legislative jurisdiction, and four Democrats have already announced their intentions to seek their party’s nomination in next August’s primary, including state Senator Sean McCann and attorney Jessica Swartz, who lost to Huizenga in last year’s General Election. Whether any other Republican hopeful will challenge Huizenga for the party nomination remains to be seen.
Earlier this year, Huizenga entertained thoughts of getting into the US Senate race for the seat being vacated next year by the retiring Democrat Gary Peters, but it was reported that, at the urging of President Trump, Huizenga opted not to challenge front-runner Mike Rogers for the GOP nomination.
