KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says it has removed a “violent offender from the community” with the arrest of an armed robbery suspect earlier this week.
Sunday, December 14 Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to an attempted armed robbery in the 1100 block of Conant Street. They say during the robbery, the suspect produced a firearm and demanded money from the victim before fleeing on foot.
The KDPS investigation identified the suspect as 28-year-old Tazman Montel Jefferson, who was on parole through
the Michigan Department of Corrections for prior robbery convictions.
Wednesday, December 17 officers assigned to the Crime Reduction Team located Jefferson in the 1000 block of West Paterson Street and attempted to contact him. Jefferson fled on foot
but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
Jefferson was found in possession of a Chiappa M4-22 firearm and distribution quantities of cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl.
Following the arrest, officers executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 1000 block of Interfaith
Boulevard, where additional evidence related to the attempted armed robbery was recovered.

Jefferson was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on various drug and weapons charges. Charges related to the attempted armed robbery remain pending.
Jefferson was arraigned Friday and bond was set at $200,000.
“This arrest removed a violent offender from our community who was already on parole and chose to
continue engaging in dangerous criminal behavior,” said Captain Danielle Guilds of the Criminal
Investigations Division. “Thanks to the swift and coordinated response by our officers, he was taken
into custody safely, preventing further harm and holding him accountable for his actions.”
