KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After heavy rains late Sunday that caused the flooding of some streets in Kalamazoo, strong winds and falling snow led to dangerous driving conditions Monday morning, with crashes and slide-offs reported across the area.
In Portage, a large tree was uprooted, damaging power lines in the area of Sprinkle Road and Meredith Street. Consumers Energy says crews were sent to remove the tree from the lines and inspect gas lines to make sure all was well.
The downed line left more than 1,000 customers without power. Consumers Energy estimated power would be restored around 11:00 p.m. Monday.
As of mid-afternoon Monday, just over 200 Consumers Energy customers in Kalamazoo County were without power, with another 486 out in Allegan County, 429 out in Calhoun County, 663 out in Van Buren County, and over 1,000 with electricity on Ottawa County.
