KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Some changes are coming to Western Michigan University in the coming year, not in their physical plant, which has seen a lot of upgrades, but in how they steer the ship.
President Russ Kavalhuna says since coming on board six months ago, he has been holding listening sessions with anyone and everyone who wanted to talk and said some consistent themes have stood out, including a sense of pride in the place.
He says he has also heard universal dislike and distrust of their budget model and promises more transparency in the process to prepare their next budget.
He says they also plan to bring in an outside consultant to figure out better ways to operate and grow the university.
He briefed the Board of Trustees earlier this month.
Kavalhuna says he plans to give a more complete report on his listening sessions and his proposals in the new year.
