KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Even though he has only been on the job for 12 months, 40th District State Representative Matt Longjohn has announced his 2026 campaign for reelection.
Michigan House terms are two years each, and Longjohn was elected to the seat in November 2024.
In his first term, Dr. Longjohn is the only rookie Democratic Party member to serve on the Appropriations Committee, with more specific assignments to the Higher Education and Human Services Subcommittees on Appropriations.
This term he introduced legislation dealing with prescription drug costs, Michigan’s immunization policies, gun violence prevention, and promoting primary care careers.
“It’s expected that as many as 700,000 Michiganders will lose their ability to obtain or afford health insurance in the next couple years, healthcare costs are spiraling out of control, and several health systems are struggling to keep their doors open,” Longjohn said, “I hope to earn the support of voters in Portage, and Oshtemo and Texas Townships, to return to Lansing for a second term and keep working on things that matter most to the people of the 40th House District.”
