KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – As 2026 begins, Kalamazoo’s three largest elected boards all got organized for the new year this week as they held their first meetings.
Last night, the Kalamazoo Public Schools board elected new leadership for the year, and they didn’t make many changes.
TiAnna Harrison was reelected president and Karla Murphy will continue as treasurer.
Trustees Jenny Hill and Carol McGlinn will swap positions, with Hill serving this time as vice president and McGlinn as secretary.
Harrison says they are a good team and she is proud to lead them.
“I don’t want anyone to think that this is easy work at all. I appreciate the fact that you trust me and you trust my vision and that you are allowing me to grow as a leader,” she said.
Tuesday night, the Kalamazoo County board also picked their leadership for the year, keeping Jen Strebs as chair for another year and John Taylor and Jeff Heppler as vice chair and chair pro-tem.
Strebs had this to say.
“I commit to the same diligence for this year. We have tremendous challenges facing us as a community as a state as a nation.”
Monday, the Kalamazoo city commission welcomed their new city manager to the dais and approved their 2026 budget.
They all say it will be a year of new challenges in these unprecedented times.
