KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The organization that will run Kalamazoo County’s soon-to-open transitional shelter for unhoused families has named their Executive Director.
Andrea Tramel will head the newly formed Family Promise of Southwest Michigan. Tramel had been the development director for Ministry with Community, which provides a daytime shelter and other support services in Kalamazoo.
Last October the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners approved construction and service contracts totaling more than $12 million for the transitional family shelter called The Landing Place, and contracted with Family Promise to operate the program. The Landing Place will be in the former Country Inn and Suites hotel near the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport.
Services will include daily meals, case management, and individualized housing navigation, along with connections to childcare, employment, and benefits programs through community partnerships.
The 80-room shelter was originally planned to open last summer, but is now on track to by April 2026.
